These motors will run on 6 volts very nicely. Performance is comparable to the Eldon "Dyno-Mite" motor at that voltage.
Since these motors draw more amps than the original Eldon 6 Volt motors I recommend that you hook up 1 dedicated 6 Volt transformer (or other power supply) per lane for consistant performance.

NOTE: I designed this adapter to use a common, easily available motor to replace the old Eldon motor and to run at 6 to 8 volts (max). I did not intend this adapter as an upgrade to 12 volt operation. Yes it can be done. However, in my 2 years of testing you WILL tear out the original crown gear. Either splitting it or taking the teeth right off. You WILL strip out the rear wheels. The splines WILL twist out the center of the original wheels.
  These are powerful little motors and the 40+ year old plastics in the chassis will not stand anymore than the recommended voltage for long.
  I have had no problems running 6 to 8 volts and I have spent many hours running the adapted cars.
